to the Santa Monica Bay Sailing Foundation. Open and print

The Santa Monica Bay Sailing Foundation was
established in 1990 to provide support for local youth and adult
sailing, boating, and watersport programs. The Foundation also offers
funding for at-risk youth, providing opportunities for young people
who might otherwise be unable to enjoy these activities.
Thanks to generous donors and affiliated yacht
clubs, SMBSF supported programs instill self-confidence, independence
and maturity in young people who might otherwise not have the opportunity
to participate in character-building watersport activities. SMBSF
also provides grants for equipment and services that benefit everyone
who enjoys watersports on and near Santa Monica Bay.
There are many ways for people to help the
Foundation achieve its goal of changing lives through sailing and
other watersports.

• Cash donations may be in the
form of Tributes and Memorials, grants and endowments, and/or bequests
for specific purposes or programs. Donations using Paypal are quick
and easy (see the Paypal link below).
• Del Rey Yacht Club members generously support the Foundation
on an annual basis through a once per year voluntary billing. Other
Santa Monica Bay yacht clubs and associations also provide valuable
support.
• Other groups raise funds that allow the Foundation to provide
scholarships for sailing programs and support for specific projects.
• These are accepted throughout
the year based on current IRS guidelines. Much of the equipment
is refurbished (if needed) and put up for sale as soon as practical.
The funds raised from such sales are applied where the need is greatest.
• The Foundation’s “EBAY for Santa Monica Bay” program promotes
an annual clean-up and recycle program to collect equipment donations
for resale and reuse.
• An acknowledgement is promptly forwarded to the donor with
verification of the sales price for income tax purposes.
• When vessels and equipment are received that are appropriate
for use by local Junior or Racing Programs, the items are accepted
by the Foundation on their behalf to be loaned, leased or transferred
to the recipients as is appropriate. (Discuss this with our representatives.)
The Foundation works with donors to customize
their donation to suit their needs.
