DRYC GETS OPTI SAILBOATS November - 2010
Two years ago, a special event was set up for powerboats to venture down along the coast of Mexico, stopping in several ports along the way, with a final stop in La Paz. Envisioned and organized by DRYC member, Bruce Kessler, the event was named Fleet Underway to Baja Rally (FUBAR for short), and all net proceeds were allocated to the SMBSF for the junior program at DRYC. This money was eventually turned into the purchase of 20 OPTI sailboats for the DRYC program. This purchase allows the junior sailors of DRYC to participate in a growing and competitive international fleet of small sailboats. With 20 boats in this one program, it is expected that one day soon, the Marina del Rey area will host a regatta of 100 boats or more like the ones in San Fransisco. This purchase will go a long way to change the lives of young sailors in the area and at DRYC in particular.
